Country Trip
National
Agricultural Biotechnology Council
19th
Annual Conference
Brookings SD
We left Columbus about 9:00, (87,275) and made Urbana (87,590) and Champaign about 2 and then met with Hans Blaschek and some
of his students for a tour of their facility and some picture opportunities
with the Buick. At 70 to 80 miles an
hour on 100% butanol we saw 23.5 miles per gallon, the trunk was full of butanol jerry cans about 400 pounds worth.

A great little article of our visit with Dr. Hans Blaschek can be viewed at: Urbana.pdf
Later we headed for Peoria and spent the night.
We met with Nasib Qureshi the next morning and had some picture taken at the
USDA research facility there.

Everyone was happy to fill
the car with some butanol. It was hard
to break away before we headed for the long trip to Brookings, SD.
We got in about 9 pm and toured the community and got a feel for the
city.
South
Dakota University has a great campus and we were warmly welcomed.
The first day we were
interviewed by radio and television

Thrusday we headed for Watertown, next day we tested a Harley.
2006 Street Glide equipped
with a Power Command Control Module which enabled us to adjust the fuel to air
ratio.

The first chart shows that
when run with gasoline jetting butanol ran lean.
First run no adjustments
Morry adjusted the Command Module so the air
fuel ratio was 15:1. We saw the horsepower
increase by 5 horse and the torque by about 7 foot pounds at up to 5,000 RPM in the second run.

Second run with adjustment
When a blend of 50:50 gas
to butanol we saw a good one to one replacement. You could not tell the difference.
Third Run 50:50 with adjustment
We left Friday at 14:00 Watertown (88,419) and headed for Blacklick, arriving Saturday
morning at 05:30 (89,492) a
total of 1,073 miles in 15:30, ~70 mph
On the way home we got an
average of 24.5 mpg on a 40% butanol, 60% gasoline at 75 mph.
My thanks to everyone for a great event and the opportunity to educate folks about butanol.
