I am successfully running 4 L of HPLC grade n-butanol into about 8 gallons of gas right now - that clears 10% in concentration. No issues, in fact acceleration and starting is smoother. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out in your campaign.

As far as stationary engine - - no, it's in my car - - not stationary - I use it to drive all around town and pick stuff up for my wife. I’m a little concerned that the fuel system components might not handle an OH but driving on California - gas there should be some ethanol / MTBE in there already so a few OH's or other O-groups might not swell/dissolve anything.

I really think we outta push this butanol technology to random people we meet - - I think it's really the winning-est 'solution' (t.i.c.) for our country.

I used a tank of 10% n-butanol burned through without issues - in fact the thing seems to run better than before.

The Civic is up for a smog test and I’m curious to see if there were any positive/cleaning or poisoning/burning effects to the catalytic converter - I’ll keep you posted as to what I find.

I’ve also got a few liters of other Butanol’s on hand, not the n-BuOH straight chain variety. Do you know anything about these as far as burning as a gas replacement?

 As you can see the isomers of butanol are indeed physically different, have different boiling points and I would imagine act differently.  Nature makes n-BuOH so that is the one I used.  A lot of experimenting will have to take place for even n-BuOH to be verified and given the OK by industry.

Do you care to expand at all on the cleaning action of butanol on an engine?

Butanol is an Industrial Solvent used in the printing industry for cleaning presses and I am sure other applications.  It is slow to evaporate.  But it is an alcohol and breaks down deposits.

Two tanks ago I burned that 8-10 gallons of 10% butanol blend, have been running cheap gas since, and now the thing just smog tested (cold even) better than a new civic!

Could it be that butanol is both the solution for the 'environment' and 'the engine', as well ?

My name is Paul W. and you added some butanol to my 3/4 filled tank of gas on my motorcycle. On my way home I noticed a few things.

1 There was a different smell from the exhaust when I was sitting at traffic lights, but it was ok.

2. At first it seemed to idle higher but has slowed down after 20 miles riding.

3. Torque, I accelerated on the freeway ramp and was way beyond the speed limit before I new it. I slowed down for safety but the bike was willing to take more throttle if I gave it. I also new that the engine would lug when it fell beolw 1800 rpm in the same gear, but after your fill up I could lug it down to 1500 rpm and no problem.

 N-Butanol is cheaper in larger quantities ~ $1.22/lb = 374 lb/55 gal
